I haven't tried an MP4-12c.9834593853-734939 but I tested the standard 458 Ferrari and I liked it.

McLaren, and my decision was 90% based on the badge. The other 10% was for the clever suspension.

You got to drive the Ferrari 458?
So jealous

I went to the dealer. If you are old like me and pick a classic car to drive to the dealer, they let you. I also owned a Dino years ago so I technically have fulfilled Ferrari's snobbish pre owned criteria.

McLaren without hesitation.
It may not be as "special" (read as over-hyped) as the Ferrari, but I'm sure to my dim-wits and fists-of-HoneyBaked it's plenty fast enough.

It's definitely way, way faster than the Ferrari just based on the numbers. It's got like 690 HP and is 100 lbs lighter than a 458 based on the short articles I've read.
And with only 5 examples, it's plenty special. You're right it should be way more hyped.

Nice! That's awesome you had a Dino.
My old man has a couple F cars so I could drive one to the dealer to look legit and ask to test drive a 458. But I'm too scared to. I might fall in love and attempt to use creative (and irresponsible) financing to purchase one. I recently found out about 144 month loan options when looking at an ad for an F430.
Was there anything about the 458 that you didn't like? I've watched every video I can find and everyone loves it. The only minor quibbles I've heard are that the steering is a tad light and the throttle is very sensitive. But that's all I've ever heard about a driving dynamic that wasn't a 10/10 glowing review.

Btw have you ever seen the dark brown interior option on the 458? I had not until this morning. Wow it is so nice.
I thought you'd like this 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia on AutoTrader.com.

McLaren. Not only do I think it looks better, but it's also probably faster.

No I didn't see that, the one I tried had the standard light tan leather.

McLaren without a single doubt or second glance at the Ferrari.
It looks better, sounds amazing, rides great, has the specs I care about, and I just can't help but be in awe of the engineering put into it.
Also, I really just don't care one bit about Ferrari's...

Well I couldn't bring down the hammer with the test, I liked it, many cars like this are pretty sensitive with applying the power, but like any car you adapt to it after more time in the seat. Lots of cars seem off when you first drive them and then you get used to their unique needs.

That's very true. You need time to adjust.
Was it an exciting car to drive at low speeds?
That's how I measure how great a sports car is. Lots of cars are fast. But you can rarely drive fast in the real world. If the car is still fun to drive at normal speeds then it's always entertaining.
If it was engaging and fun for you despite the loss of the gated shifter then it must really be a masterpiece.

Normally i'm all about fun to drive cars over all out speed. But when we're talking ultra high performance special editions of altready stupid fast and expensive supercars, i have no choice but concede that the whole thing is and should be a dick measuring contest.

Can't belive they let you test drive a ferrari just because you showed up in your dad's F-150.

It felt very light and it did what I wanted it to. I honestly don't drive many newer cars, my newest car is from the late 80's so I can't really compare it to other new cars. I try to test out a car if I think it will be fun, I tried the Skyline. With all modern cars I drive I feel like something is helping me and they never have that connection to the road old cars have. But it was actually pretty easy to drive and did what you wanted, so in that way you could have quite a bit of fun without being too nervous. The manual is gone, true, but its so easy to shift now you can actually concentrate more on what you're doing. I would still like a shifter. It was a lot of fun but on the roads I was on it might be hard to judge some things.

I know what you mean. The newer cars get the less connected they feel.
I'm guessing the 6MT F430 might be the last car that feels like an evolution of the Dino. The 458 seems more like a baby supercar than a super Dino.
